How we use Flash

We use Flash for:

• Animated menus and other items
  The header menu you see above uses simple Flash animation to enhance the user experience. The animals at Adelaide Animal Hospital are made to move and do fun & interesting things using simple Flash animation. Flash is also used very effectively in modern banner advertising.
• Including multimedia
  Wide browser adoption and reliable capabilities make Flash an excellent choice for presenting video and audio.
• Intro pages
  An intro page is the opening page of a website. Flash can be used very effectively on intro pages to create an impression with the visitor. See an example at Vintage Glamour.
• Entire websites
  An entire website can be produced using only Flash. This can make for a very lively and interesting website, although usually its advantages are usually outweighed by its disadvantages - see below.

When not to use Flash

Search engines do not look in Flash files so any Flash content is effectively invisible. This may not be a problem, but for many sites it is.

While Flash is inherently efficient, Flash files can still be quite large because of the quantity of data associated with rich media types such as audio and video. Hence download/waiting times can be long and often don't suit dialup Internet connections.

Lastly, Flash generally takes more time to develop and as such is more expensive than the traditional HTML.

For these reasons we prefer to use Flash in moderation.
